Training&Test

It is a test held and organized by the World Korean Language Authentication and Test Committee, examining the current Korean language proficiency of candidates, of which the test results can be flexibly applied by enterprises, authorities and individuals as respective needs. There are 6 levels of the test.

Introduction to the Test: the purpose of the Korean Language Proficiency Test is to provide Korean language learner with measures evaluating and testing their capacity justly through the implementation of standardized Korean language proficiency test system.

Organizer: World Korean Language Authentication and Test Committee.

Object of Test: non-Korean native speaking foreigners and Korean language learners among overseas compatriots, and people who wish to study in Chinese or foreign universities and wish to get a job in Korean enterprise.

Time of Test: the tests are held simultaneously at test centers across China in April and September of each year. The elementary and advanced level will be tested in the morning, and the intermediate level (adjusted level) will be tested in the afternoon. The candidates can sign up for the morning test, and can sign up for the afternoon test at the same time.

Level division: take the obtained comprehensive score as the benchmark to judge, and the score of the level division shall be subject to the follow score:

TOPIK I:

Level 1: 81 to 140 scores. Be able to understand and express the contents of very personal and familiar topics. Can make simple sentences through the knowledge of nearly 800 basic vocabularies and basic grammar. Can understand and compose simple living and practical articles.

Level 2: Can understand personal and familiar topics through nearly 1500-2000 vocabularies. Can distinguish language for public and non-public occasions.

TOPIK II:

Level 3: 120 to 150 scores. Have no special difficulties in daily life, and can master basic language utilized in various public facilities and needed continuously in society. Can express and understand familiar society in paragraph. Can understand and use basic characteristics of written and oral language.

Level 4: 151 to 190 scores. Can understand and use general social and abstract materials accurately and fluently. Have basic understanding on commonly used expression and Korean culture. Can use and understand social and cultural contents.

Level 5: 191 to 230 scores. Have a certain degree of language proficiency needed in professional research or service execution. Can use language appropriately in the context of public and non-public and in the context of oral and written language.

Level 6: 231 scores and above. Can accurately and fluently use language needed in professional research or service execution. Although cannot completely reach the language proficiency of native Korean, but can naturally communicate in practice or expression without feeling difficulty.

Review Method: The General Korean Language Test is more suitable for those who have plans to study aboard, the Practical Korean Language Test is more extensive, more focus on examining daily language proficiency, which is more suitable for people with business and life demands. Teacher Jin Xiang-hua thinks that B-TOPIC is more representative. She also reminders learners shall firstly understand the different emphasis of the two tests when choosing test item, then realize their own needs and know what for they take the test. It is better for candidates to choose test item pertinently but not blindly.

Testing Emphasis: Korean language is a kind of agglutinative language. When learning this language, we should not only master the words, but also the auxiliary words and suffixes, as well as inflexion, deformation and connection rules. The pronunciation is relatively harder than Japanese language (which is also known as agglutinative language). The testing emphasis of each level of adjusted Korean language proficiency test is as follows:

Elementary level: level 1 requires the candidates to be able to understand the alphabetical order of Korean language and the basic structure of combination method of Korean language, use basic greetings, basic sentence pattern, and basic vocabularies. Level 2 requires the candidates to be able to master Korean language in the aspects of listening, speaking, reading and writing, understand articles with about 1500 to 3000 vocabularies, and meet the conversation requirements.

Intermediate level: level 3 requires the candidates to be proficient in listening, speaking, reading and writing, be able to write short articles to express themselves and conduct general daily conversation; level 4 requires the candidates to be able to communicate with Koreans accurately without mistakes, and understand the society, culture and custom of Korea.

Advanced level: level 5 requires the candidates to be able to use Korean language in daily life or work, understand Korean TV program and broadcast news; level 6 requires the candidates to understand Korean language, and be able to express accurately with articles or discourse, and participate in discussions.
